Opium Do A Lot Of Work For Charity, Mate By our showbiz reporter, Toxteth O'Grady

On Friday 22nd September, Opium played to a capacity crowd at Ravensworth Park Country Club ( www.welcome.to/RavensworthPark ) at a charity event in aid of Crime Prevention. The first crime to be prevented was their version of Relax which was sentenced to 14 days in chokey without the option !

Rumours

Tickets were very reasonably priced at £2.00 and sold like hot cakes. There were rumours of touts charging up to 5 times the face value on the night. Unfortunately it was me who started those rumours.

Tusk

There were all sorts of fabulous prizes won in fund-raising raffles ( including a wonderful T-shirt with this page on ) and a substantial sum of money was raised for a worthy cause.

Opium would like it to be known that they have a heart of gold and in no way did they do this gig just for personal gain and a few beers. Err ... not much !

Tango In The Night

Ravensworth Park Country Club is well worth a visit for a fine glass of ale, a bar snack or a superb meal in their sumptiously appointed restaurant, and the wit and wisdom of your genial hosts, Johnny & Annie. But don't talk to the regulars !

The Club can be found ( with the aid of a taxi driver with a degree in orienteering ) half way up Banesley Lane just through Lady Park - take the Lady Park turn off from the Safeway roundabout on the A1 at the south end of Team Valley. Here's a helpful ( if a little badly drawn ) map !
